Body Stress Release

BODY STRESS RELEASE (BSR) assists the body in its innate ability to maintain and heal itself.  It is a gentle procedure that locates areas of body stress using the body as a biofeedback monitor.  Light, precise stimulation encourages the body to release stored tensions, which can manifest as a backache, headaches, postural distortions or fatigue.  Releasing is rapid, but if stress has been stored for a long time, more releases may be required over a period of time to keep the nervous system functioning at optimal capacity.

BSR is not the practice of massage or massage therapy, as BSR is not focused solely or primarily on the musculature, but is concerned with the buildup of stress in the body stored in physical structures, whether mechanical, chemical, mental or emotional in nature. Unlike massage therapy, BSR is not focused on the touch, palpation or movement of the soft tissue, but is rather a system of assessing repositories of stress or tension in the body by brief touch of specific points on the body, to activate the body’s own ability to heal and maintain itself. Nor is BSR chiropractic, as it does not seek elimination of abnormal functioning through adjustment or manipulation of the spine or adjacent tissue. In a sense, BSR is a much more passive approach than either chiropractic or massage therapy. It is a complementary health practice designed to trigger the body’s own self-healing.

When the stresses of life – whether mechanical, chemical or mental/emotional – reach the level of overload, the body is no longer able to adapt constructively. The stress becomes locked into the physical structures, causing pain, stiffness, numbness or postural distortions. This stored tension has an impact on the nervous system and undermines the body’s natural ability to co-ordinate its functions and heal and maintain itself.

BSR brings effective relief from pain and discomfort from many different causes. We work with your body to bring awareness to areas of stress and tension, and once the nervous system is aware of these areas, your natural healing capacity takes over and your body does the rest of the work!
